At Latino Médica Consultants (LMC) we translate in many different software formats and for very different audiences. This page will give you an idea of the different types of software formats and the quality of the finished product.
Web Pages: The following link corresponds to a website we translated for a medical academy. Here we have worked directly with HTML files (we also work with XML for those clients that prefer it so the text is available for printing, Web, PDA´s etc.). The link below opens the English original webpage. Please notice that there are many other links in this page, each corresponding to a different English document. In the center of the English page you will see a box with an ESP sign. By clicking the ESP sign you will open the Spanish webpage which is identical to the English one. You may open more links of documents translated into Spanish by LMC by clicking the far right column (Más Información).

It is important to notice that the Spanish site looks identical to the original English site. Also notice that no changes in the design were necessary to accommodate the new text in Spanish which expanded about 25%.
Package Inserts: This is an example of a multilingual package insert we translated for a medical diagnostics company. For this type of project we assign a project manager and a translator and editor (one per language) that work together; once they have final agreement on the text corrections, the project manager reviews the work and makes formatting adjustments before sending the work back to the client. Again, notice how the multilingual document maintains the same format as the original and the new text flows and reads well with the original document.

Textbooks: The following links are adjacent pages of an anatomy and diseases multilingual (English and Spanish) book we translated using Quark Xpress and Illustrator desktop publishing software. Notice that there is minimal difference between the source and the target page despite the fact that the target page had about 25% more text in it. The key work done by LMC in this type of project is to try to fit the new text maintaining the same page dimensions and without altering the pictures or the text size in such a way as to make the translation aesthetically less attractive and difficult to read.

HIVsp (351 KB PDF file).
Patient Education Booklets: The following link is a booklet we prepared for a medical insurance company. The booklet was translated directly in Adobe InDesign using some other programs of Creative Suite such as Photoshop and Illustrator. There were some modifications to the original file in order to fit all the new Spanish text; however, the format and design was not altered. This document was printed and used as a Patient Care Diary and it was also posted at the insurance company’s website (for patients to print it) since with a print ready document we also provided the client with a PDF file.

Please let us know if there is any other example of work that we can provide you with; we also do Power Point presentations, posters, journal articles, MSDS, etc.
